Foggy Hill Farm, Jaffrey, NH

At Foggy Hill Farm in Jaffrey, farming is as much about nurturing community as it is about growing good food. Christine and Andy Pressman started the family-run farm in 2011, bringing years of farming experience, curiosity, and a deep respect for the land to their corner of New Hampshire.

Each spring, two acres of sandy loam soil come alive with a diverse mix of vegetables. More than 30 crops make their way into CSA shares and to local wholesale partners, with varieties chosen in part through conversations with members and fellow farmers. Nearby, laying hens scratch and cluck, bees hum around a small apiary, and pollinator plantings give way to meadows, wetlands, and forest.

Christine and Andy's farming roots stretch well beyond Jaffrey. Christine first began farming in Virginia in the early 1990s, while Andy learned the rhythms of farming and beekeeping near Athens, Ohio. Their paths eventually crossed on a Virginia farm, beginning a partnership that would grow into a shared life devoted to agriculture.

That experience shapes Foggy Hill Farm's thoughtful approach today. Cover crops protect and replenish the soil, locally made compost and organic amendments return nutrients to the fields, and drip irrigation helps make careful use of water. The farm avoids genetically modified seed and chemical pesticides, works to reduce plastic use, and participates in the Community Solar for Farms Project.

The farm's sense of stewardship extends beyond its cultivated acres. Christine and Andy recognize the land they tend as part of N’dakinna, the Indigenous homeland of the Abenaki, Pennacook, and Wabanaki Peoples, and approach their role as caretakers with gratitude and responsibility.

Foggy Hill Farm is also a place where farming creates connection. Through a partnership with Perfect Peace Inc., the farm works alongside adults with developmental disabilities, adding another meaningful dimension to its community-centered mission. Knowledge flows outward, too, through field days, presentations, farmer networks, and Andy's work with the National Center for Appropriate Technology.
