First NHFN Grant Awarded from The Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation

By Jen Risley (May 2, 2014)

NHFN FBNew Hampshire Farms Network (NHFN) received its first grant as a nonprofit from The Byrne Foundation of Hanover, NH, for $5,000.

“Receiving The Byrne Foundation grant means we will be able to attract and compensate qualified freelance writers to create profiles,” says Helen Brody, who has written all of the existing profiles, adding, “Increasing profiles increases the educational value and the mission of NHFN.”

Creating a profile includes a farm visit, interview and picture taking, followed by a write up and final approval from the farmer.  Eighty of the 4,300 New Hampshire farms are currently profiled on the website.  Many farms have asked to be profiled and, using these grant funds, the goal is to add ten profiles this season.
